Be a WO(MAN) With a PLAN: Because, If You Fail to Plan, You Plan to Fail!

    Dr. Kenae Black

Presented by Dr. Kenae Black, Development Advisor
It is important for individuals to know where they are going, how they plan to get there and what may prevent all of this from happening. Whether an executive, entry-level employee, small or large business owner; or anything in-between; having a plan is imperative.

The importance of planning ahead is multifold. One benefit is that you will be confronted with the question of, “where do I want to go?” It’s an important question that should not be overlooked. If you have no destination, then it doesn’t matter where you go. If it doesn’t matter where you go, then you will eventually stop walking as lying around is more comfortable. But, if it does matter, than the plan to get there is even more important. We don’t travel to any destination without having a plan (albeit, directions) to get there. We anticipate traffic, alternate routes, and the time it takes you to get from where you are, to where you intend to be. Very rarely do we pick up and go without any idea of how to get there.

As such, once you start writing down what you want to achieve, you will drastically increase your chances of becoming the leader you want to be. Whenever you commit yourself to thorough planning of realistic goals, you will always manage to achieve what you want accomplish.

The importance of planning is further highlighted by scientific research, which has shown that writing down goals increases your chances of success.

    Take-a-ways of the session include:

    • Understanding the importance of a Leadership Development Plan
    • Understanding the importance of individual assessments before plan’s development
    • Understanding the importance of creating a mission statement for the Leadership Development Plan
    • Attendees will be able to create S.M.A.R.T. Goals
    • Understanding all elements required for an effective Leadership Development Plan

Do you feel like you’re never caught up with email? Always wondering what’s buried in your inbox — information you should have included in a report, messages you should have responded to, deadlines you missed? Do you wish you could be more productive when it comes to email?

Email is an important tool that can overwhelm us. With Outlook on a PC, you’ve got access to many great shortcuts to increase your productivity (and reduce your stress).

    For example, you can:

    • Set up alerts so messages from specific people pop up in the middle of your screen
    • Easily create “quick steps” to move an email message to a folder with a single click of your mouse, no matter where that folder is in your file hierarchy
    • Use rulers to automatically direct certain messages to folders other than the Inbox
    • Customize the quick access toolbar
    • Use flags effectively
    • Drag and drop messages to your calendar and contacts.

Certified Professional Organizer and former Outlook trainer Susan Kousek is all about productivity. So there’s no need for you to take copious notes in this session. In addition to a live demo showing you how to set up and use these shortcuts, she’ll provide you a handout that includes step-by-step instructions for creating the shortcuts once you’re at your own PC. You’ll be amazed by how much time you will be able to save.
